Participants will learn how to quality assure fire-rated lining systems, including quality assurance of fire-rated lining systems covering walls, ceilings, openings, penetrations, air handling, structural encasement, escape systems, mechanical service shafts and relief joints.
The unit covers planning and preparation for the work, identification of authorised installation requirements, and inspection and certification that all materials and installation techniques comply with authorised standards.

BCA - Vol 1 and 2, which can be downloaded free from the https://ncc.abcb.gov.au/ncc-online/NCC (you may need to create an account)
Australian standards AS1530.8.2:2018, AS 1684.2:2010 and AS 2785:2000, AS 4072.1-2005 (1684 is replaced with AS 1720.4 - you are to purchase your own copies of these standards from Standards Australia or saiglobal.com)
QLD Building Act 1975
Documents detailing the responsibilities and authorities in relation to design, installation and supervision of fire-rated lining systems; they define and explain fire-rated protection, the principles of compartmentation, fire resistance levels, standard fire tests and the dangers of incompatible mix and match solutions
The above resources are to be used along with the practical assessment activities, options 1 or 2.
PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT
The practical assessment will take up to 6 weeks to complete as inspection will comprise stages of building.
This unit of competency can be assessed by inspecting and reporting on, or selecting, a total fire-rated system that complies with all codes and standards and covers, at a minimum, a residential or commercial multi-floor site involving compartmentation, plant rooms, access ladders, escalators, lifts, shafts, columns and beams. This can include Class 2-9 structures, for example mixed use building Class 2,6 or 7a or Class 5,6,7 and Class 1a
Option 1
Inspecting a total fire-rated system and compiling a detailed report using assessment methods.

* Verification method - Visual inspection.

What you will need;
Plans and specifications for a project that you are currently working on
Option 2
Selecting a total fire-rated system which complies with all codes and standards. For example the Gyprock CSR, Fyrechek system as indicated in the Gyprock Red Book or Knauf Fireshield, however Fyrecheck is preferable.
