OVERVIEW

This qualification reflects the role of builders, site managers and managers of small to medium-sized building businesses who apply knowledge of structural principles, codes, standards and legal requirements to Class 1 and 10, to a maximum of two storeys and Class 2 to 9 Type C constructions, and who plan and supervise safe building and construction work, prepare and administer contracts, and who apply quality principles to building and construction projects.

SCOPE OF WORKS

- Building work on a class 1 or class 10 building.

- Building work on classes 2 to 9 buildings with a gross floor area not more than 2000m², but not including Type A or Type B construction.

- Building work that consists of non-structural work on a building, regardless of— the class of the building; or the gross floor area of the building.

- Prepare plans and specifications if the plans and specifications are:

for the licensee’s personal use, or for use in building work to be performed by the licensee personally.

- Temporarily until 2 May 2025 – for the building work described above, install and maintain:

- Fire collars, fire-rated penetrations and fire-rated joint sealing

- Fire and smoke walls and fire-rated ceilings.

LICENCING REQUIREMENTS

QBCC experience requirements

4 years experience in either:

the licence class scope of work

other work QBCC is satisfied is at least equivalent to experience in the scope of work for the class.

OR

2 years experience in the scope of work (or equivalent), if you are qualified in one of the following:

bricklaying and blocklaying

carpentry.
